Starting With Teacher Equity

Today's NYT editorial on NCLB (Why the Achievement Gap Persists) proposes quite a different take on the issue than did Paul Tough a couple of weeks ago. Where Tough focused on the tensions between those who think schools can make up for underlying deficiencies and those who can't, putting up programs like KIPP as possible solutions, today's editorial focuses on an issue Tough (and the USDE and the states and districts) all but ignored: teacher equity.

UPDATE: Joe Williams likes the editorial but thinks justifying everything based on international competitiveness is lame (Flat Earth This, Pal). I think he's right.
