Reorganization Fever
It's not just the Bush White House that finds itself in need of a spring cleaning. Here in Chicago, and out in NYC, the school system heads are both firing up their org charts and trying to streamline and "de-layer" administrative systems (with the help of fancy consultants) in hopes of both a functional improvement and, one assumes, a political bump as well.
The first parts of the Chicago reorg have just been announced, after much secrecy (my April Fool's mockup of the org chart was a big hit last week) -- but the chances of the reorg having a positive impact seem slim. The NYC process seems like it's just starting, but contains many of the same elements (New York Rethinks Its Remaking of the Schools NYT).
