Scaring Parents To Sell Papers

"Bunkmate pranks, dirty jokes and misinformation about the facts of life are still part of camp, camp directors and other experts say," according to the fear-mongering NYT (For Campers, New Facts of Life). "But now fears of inappropriate touching and misuse of cellphones and digital cameras have been added to the list of discussion topics."

I agree that the dangers out there are much more significant than twenty or even five years ago. However, children today are likely far more aware of these dangers than we are as adults. This does not mean that we don't have to teach children to be safe. We most certainly do. However, when we teach children to think and take care of themselves they develop a very good understanding of the world in which they live.
