Court to Weigh Race as Factor in School Rolls NYT
The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to rule on what measures, if any, public school systems may use to maintain racial balance in individual schools.

New Orleans schools charter a new course LA Times
In a country with many struggling urban school systems, New Orleans was widely considered the worst. So, it is little surprise that, as the city spent the nine months since Katrina trying to reassemble itself, no one clamored to recast schools in the old mold.

Testing special students is tricky

Students with severe disabilities and language barriers are unable to show their progress through testing, because if they show too much progress they could be held by the standards of the No Child Left Behind law and may not actually be capable of meeting No Child standards.
